Forest Watch - Ground Truthing

The Forest Watch Coordinator for the Yaak Valley Forest Council is the only consistent "on-the-ground" specialist for the conservation community that deals with Federal Land Management activities located within the Yaak Valley.
Un-monitored land management practices of the past have resulted in a fragmented ecosystem that is in dire need of restoration and connectivity. Throughout the long process of Federal Land Management, the Forest Watch Coordinator provides the missing link, a locally customized voice for the sensitive species and the truly wild places that still remain in the Yaak Valley. Monitoring in-the-field begins during the early stages of a project with representatives of the Forest Service and continues post-implementation to ensure that the needs of a healthy functioning eco-system are met. The site-specific knowledge acquired throughout the process is shared not only with YVFC supporters, who want to provide the agency with informative comments on proposals, but recommendations are also presented to a diverse group of interested Stakeholders on the Forest.
